Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105, NIV)
Year after year my attempts at reading God’s Word through to the end failed. Yet only three things are needed to easily succeed at reading the Bible. So how could I have missed them?
I tried to make reading God’s Word complicated. I thought desire was enough to achieve my plan. But it wasn’t. January first was my chance to begin again. But before the month ended so did my plan every time.
I finally gave up. That’s when I started reading a Psalm and a Proverb a day every morning while I ate my breakfast. It turns out those three things are all you need to easily succeed at reading the Bible.
What you need to easily succeed at reading the Bible
Time. You can read God’s Word first thing in the morning, while you eat breakfast, or before you go to sleep. The time isn’t important, but having a set time to read the Bible is. We calendar our priorities.
Plan. You can read a Psalm and a Proverb a day, a one-year Bible, or the Close to His Heart Bible Reading Plan with me. The key is knowing what you’ll be reading when you sit down to dive into God’s Word.
Place. From the kitchen table to your favorite chair. From the driver’s seat of your car to your bed at night. You can be mobile and carry everything in a bag or basket or have a set place where you meet God in His Word.
Having a set time and place and a plan for what you’ll read will enable you to easily succeed at reading the Bible. How do I know? It worked for me.
The Bible provides a roadmap for living. Growing our faith. Enabling us to live out what we believe.God's Word lights the way for our day.
Through God’s Word we learn to hear His voice. Through His Word we receive His direction. Through His Word we draw close to His heart.
Reminder for the heart: God’s Word lights the way for our day.
What’s on your heart? How have you seen your faith grow through reading God’s Word?
