“Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:22, HCSB)
“as to the Lord” … What does it mean to submit to your husband as to the Lord? As a wife who desires to submit to her husband’s leading, I’ve been leaning into that question.
Tim and I selected Hacksaw Ridge for a recent at-home movie night. A truly inspirational movie. But be warned it shows the harsh realities of war in graphic detail.
Amazon describes Hacksaw Ridge as: “The true story of army medic and conscientious objector Desmond Doss who, during WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun.”
Desmond’s determination to save others while risking his own life portrays what it means to lay down one’s life for another. But it wasn’t his heroic exploits that caused me to look inward at my own life. Desmond Doss lived for an audience of One.
Submitting to my husband’s leading isn’t about my husband. It’s about walking in obedience to God. Living for an audience of One.

And I don’t about you, but I need God’s help to walk this out.
A Prayer for the Wife Who Desires to Submit to Her Husband’s Leading:
Lord, thank You for Your grace that operates in and through me so I can live as You’ve called me to live.
Your Word says I am to submit to my husband as to You (Ephesians 5:22). I need Your help to walk that out.
Shield me from outside influences that say I’m weak for walking in submission. It takes strength to yield. Grace to stand strong in adversity.
Help me to be influenced by You alone. To be a voice of godly influence to my husband. But in the end to submit to his leading.
Give me eyes to see the blessing and protection of submission. Help us to walk in marriage unity as we align our hearts to Your purpose.
In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.
