Have you ever questioned your ability to do what God called you to do? Most days I sit down to write, not knowing what will come out. I show up and pray that God will give me words to say.
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV)
God called Moses to bring the children out of Egypt, but Moses doubted his ability to do what God called him to do.
Tending livestock in the quiet fields of Midian for forty years caused Moses to doubt his qualifications. Talking to sheep doesn’t prepare a man to address the leader of a nation. And the last time Moses tried to stand up for the people, he had to flee for his life.
Biblical commentator Matthew Henry writes, “Present discouragements often arise from former disappointments.”
We can grow weary in the waiting. Becoming discouraged with every setback. Questioning if God really did call us to do more than we see in front of us.
Moses continued to protest, “‘O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue’” (Exodus 4:10b).
God countered Moses’ protest with three truths. Moses could do what God called him to do because:
1. God made him.
So the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? …” (Exodus 4:11a)
2. God goes with him.
“Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth …” (Exodus 4:12a)
3. God sustains him.
“… and teach you what you shall say.” (Exodus 4:12b)
These three truths encourage us that we can do what God called us to do. God made us. He goes with us. And He sustains us.
God gives you the grace to do what He called you to do.God gives us the grace to do what He called us to do. Grace that gives us words to say when we don’t what they’ll be. Grace that walks with us. Grace that sustains us in the waiting.

I’m getting encouragement for my heart as we seek God’s heart with my friend Crystal Storms.
I’d love if you pinned this post to Pinterest.
Sweet blessings,
I’ve always identified with Moses in this situation. And I noticed that God didn’t correct Moses’ assessment of himself. But He did promise to be with him and enable him. What an encouragement for us when we know we don’t have the wisdom or ability in ourselves to do what God called us to do.
Barbara, I think Moses years in the quiet moved his confidence from himself to God. Thankful because of His grace we can do what He’s called us to do.
Oh, your words today spark all kinds of good questions in my mind!
Love that, Michele!
Crystal, this post is beautifully encouraging. I needed to read these words today so “Thank You!”
A reminder my heart needs too, Joanne. Thank you!
These three truths sustain me too, Crystal. Thanks for using your calling to write for us. I appreciate you.
So thankful that God goes with us and enables us, Lisa. Thank you for your sweet words!
Knowing that God sustains me and goes with me brings a confidence that I don’t have to do it all myself.
Amen, Theresa! So thankful it’s true.
Such a great reminder for me today! I have been struggling lately, and this was so helpful. Thank you for reminding me that my calling is about God in me, not about me.
Love this truth, Rebecca: “my calling is about God in me, not about me.” Thankful for His timing.
Praying now and thanking God that He has made all grace abound toward me – whether I feel like it today or not!
Love that the truth of God with us is not based on our feelings but His faithfulness, Lauren. Amen!
I love this ” God gives us the grace to do what He called us to do.” Indeed, thank you for this encouragement. Blessings.
Thank you, Paula! Sweet blessings to you!
