How do you start your day?
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.
—Psalm 1:2 (NKJV)
“If you’d seen us earlier, it might be different. Things have changed too much.” Her statement carried a finality to it.
I drove home from the meeting with her words on replay. Hope seeped from my heart like a dried out grape.
I encouraged myself with Scripture. I reminded myself that with God all things are possible. The truth I spoke to my heart eased the weight, but it didn’t eliminate it.
Would the answer ever be yes?
What prayer of your heart is still unanswered? Maybe a loved one has hardened their heart to Jesus? Maybe a health diagnosis feels impossible? Maybe a promise from God seems unattainable?
I sipped my afternoon tea, and the words of my morning reading came to mind. “… Whose leaf also shall not wither …”
The sides of my mouth turned upward. Hope seeped in.
Psalm 1:3: “He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”
Starting my day with Jesus gave me what I would need before I needed it. The passage I read from His Word spoke to my exact situation.
Jesus knew what I would face and supplied me with the sweetness of His Word. When I start my day with God’s Word, His words fill my heart.
Starting my day with God’s Word fills my heart with His words.Keep praying for your loved one, that their heart may be softened. Trust that His grace is sufficient, whatever tomorrow may hold. Be faithful as you wait on Him to fulfill His word to you.
What God said He will do, He will do. His promises don’t carry an expiration date or a time limit. Hold fast.
Reminder for the heart: Starting my day with God’s Word fills my heart with His words.

I’m getting encouragement for my heart as we seek God’s heart with my friend Crystal Storms.
I’d love if you pinned this post to Pinterest.
Sweet blessings,
This reminds me of John 14:26, where it says the Holy Spirit will bring to mind what Jesus said. But we have to read what He said for the Holy Spirit to bring it back to mind. So often He does that–an applicable Scripture will come to mind in the middle of some question or problem. I’m so thankful.
Love that insight, Barbara: “we have to read what He said for the Holy Spirit to bring it back to mind.”
That IS a deeply encouraging verse. May we not wither, and may our work and our words prosper for the Kingdom!
Agreed, Michele! Amen, for His glory!
Whether it’s from a devotion I read in the morning or a bible study I watch, God has always provided me with the scripture verse or verses I needed. (Even from the Old Testament). During those early morning hours, God gave me the title for my book, The Furnace of Affliction. He also gave me pleasingtothepotter.com, the name of my website, three years earlier. It is such a blessing
So true, Horace. Love how God speaks to us through His Word, when we quiet our hearts to listen.
I so agree, Crystal! If I allow an early appointment or anything else to come first in my day, the day doesn’t go as well and I don’t get nearly as much done. BUT if I have that time with Him and his Word first thing, the Word nurtures me all day and I invariably accomplish more even if I had a long list and the time with Him cut into the minutes I thought I needed to start on the list.
So true, Pam! It doesn’t make sense. But when we give God the first part of our day, we’re able to do more in a day.
Crystal, I enjoyed your post and the simplicity of listening to God’s Words. I can’t think of a better way to start my day, & I would be lost if I didn’t sit at His feet to hear Him. But also so important is hiding that word in my heart so it is with me every where, whenever I need it.
Thank you, Donna! True for me too. I need time with Jesus before I start my day. Agree with you. Thankful for His words I know by heart.
