Welcome back to our Marriage Monday Monthly Mission. Our goal with these missions is to make little changes that will prayerfully make big differences in the atmosphere of our marriages as we pursue God’s heart and seek to glorify Him in all we do.
Each month I will check in and share with you how the previous month’s mission went in my home and invite you to check in and share in the comments how the mission went in your home.
Take a marriage assessment.
“Focus on your strengths. Outsource the rest.” While this may be good leadership or entrepreneurial advice, this doesn’t work for marriage.
If commitment is a weak area, an enduring love may not pass the test of time. If intimacy is a weakness, frustration and resentment can take root. If there’s a lack of shared responsibility, one spouse may feel they’re doing all the work, which is probably true.
Let’s uproot bitterness before it has a chance to take root. Asking God to strengthen our weak areas and turn them into our strengths.
Marriage Monday Monthly Mission – March 2017
Acknowledge God as our Father-in-Law.
“God is even more to us than a Father—He is also our Father-in-Law.” Gary Thomas, A Lifelong Love: How to Have Lasting Intimacy, Friendship, and Purpose in Your Marriage
Galatians 4:6 tells me God is my Father. And because you are [daughters], God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” I recognize Him as Tim’s Father.
But the extra dimension of seeing God as my Father-in-Law causes me to examine how I love and treat Tim with fresh eyes. Because marrying a believer means God is my Father-in-Law.
