“And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes “ 2 Kings 7:17a NIV
A few years back I made a Love Message Board to give to Tim for Christmas. But the real gift is every night I finish the sentence, “I love you because …”
Though it might seem the gift is for my husband. It’s really for me.
I want to be a noticer of the good because focusing on the good opens my heart and fills it with gratitude.
But words of affirmation don’t just flow from my lips. I’m much more likely to call Tim out for something he’s forgotten than call out the good in him.
It takes being intentional to call out the good. Because while there’s always good to find, some days nothing comes to mind and I can’t see what’s in front of me. That’s when I pray because I’m a wife who wants to see the good.
A Prayer for the Wife Who Wants to See the Good:
Lord, You made man in Your image and called it very good. I ask You to open my eyes to see my husband through Your eyes, to see the good You placed in him.
Shine Your light on the little things he does. But help me not take for granted the big things too.
Give me words that affirm who he is in You and what he means to me.
And on the hard days when nothing comes to mind, those are the days his heart needs those words the most. Especially on those days, Lord, fill my mind with things that affirm the best of who he is.
Help me be generous with words of praise so I can be a wife who brings my husband good all the days of my life.
In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.
Rest in His presence.
