My husband’s primary love language is words of affirmation, so it is my goal as his wife to intentionally find ways to affirm and build him up.
A kind word will build him up when the world tries to tear him up.
One of my favorite ways to encourage Tim is through the love message board pictured above. Each night after I write out my to-do list, I write on this love message board I made for my husband that says “i love you because…” I try to write something specific and concrete he did that day or something he does regularly for me that I want him to know I appreciate.
Then the next morning when I journal, I pen those affirming words on the last line of my journal so I can keep a record of them. (Maybe one day I’ll compile those words of affirmation as a gift for Tim he can refer back to when he needs a reminder of the many ways I love and appreciate him.)
Love Message Board Directions
I used an 8×10 standing photo frame that can stand both horizontally and vertically. I framed a piece of scrapbook paper with blue in it because blue is my husband’s favorite color. I cut “i love you because …” with my Cricut, but you could use letter stickers or print the message with a special font. I found the inspiration for this project here.
I gave the love message board to my husband last year for Christmas. I wrapped the frame and dry erase marker separately with separate gift labels so he knew the frame was for him, and the dry erase marker was for me.
Writing those words to my husband each night has three benefits for me:
- It guides me in intentionally loving my husband in his language.
- It helps me to focus on being thankful as I try to come up with something different each day.
- It leads me to sacrificially love my husband because sometimes my flesh isn’t feeling so loving when it’s time to write those words.
