Does your marriage reflect God’s heart? Welcome back to our Marriage Monthly Mission. Our goal with these missions is to make little changes that will prayerfully make big differences in the atmosphere of our marriages as we pursue God’s heart and seek to glorify Him in all we do.
Each month I will check in and share with you how the previous month’s mission went in my home and invite you to check in and share in the comments how the mission went in your home.
Submit to our husbands’ leading.
“I can’t forbid you but …” Tim continued with his reasoning why something I committed to was no longer a good idea.
I listened. But he needn’t have continued. I knew I wouldn’t be going because I pre-decided to follow his leading.
Following Tim’s leading meant disappointing someone else. I prayed for an easy way out to no avail. Instead God strengthened me to walk this out.
My decision to submit to Tim’s leading allowed me to come under his protection. And I experienced the blessing of peace knowing it was ultimately God leading me.
Marriage Monthly Mission – May 2017
Carry our husbands’ burdens.
Carry one another’s burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2, HCSB)
I love Martin Luther’s commentary on Galatians 6:2. “If we can overlook our own shortcomings and wrong-doings, we ought to overlook the shortcomings of others in accordance with the words, ‘Bear ye one another’s burdens.’”
Gary Thomas in his book A Lifelong Love sheds further insight into walking out this month’s mission. “Because of the love within us by God’s Holy Spirit, we make allowances for each other rather than judging each other. We show the world that Christian couples treat sin with grace.”
We aren’t called to change our husbands. And I’ve grown weary of trying.
But God does call us to extend compassion and love to our husbands. To give them the same measure of grace we give ourselves out of His great love for us.Marriage Monthly Mission: Carry our husbands' burdens.Click To Tweet
