What would my marriage look like if I saw God as my Father-in-law? What changes do I need to make to love my husband in a way that honors God as my Father-in-Law?
A Lifelong Love by Gary Thomas opened my eyes to seeing God as my Father-in-law. Since then I’ve felt convicted. God is revealing ways I’m not doing marriage His way.
I didn’t see godly marriages growing up. But I do have God’s Word which shows me how to do marriage His way.
Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord, for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. Now as the church submits to Christ, so wives are to submit to their husbands in everything. (Ephesians 5:22-24 HCSB)
Marriage God’s way will look different than the world’s way. Society sees submission as weakness. They don’t understand the strength a wife exhibits when she comes under her husband’s protection and authority.
I want to live under the blessing of doing marriage God’s way, honoring God as my Father-in-Law.
A Prayer for the Wife Who Wants to Honor God as Her Father-in-Law:
Lord, thank You for opening my eyes to see You in a new way, as my Father-in-Law.
You love me as both Your daughter and Your daughter-in-law. You desire for me to love my husband, Your son, well.
I need Your help to walk this out. To treat him in a way that honors You. To submit to him as You have called me to.
Asking my husband’s permission or seeking his guidance before proceeding is seen as weakness by those around me. Help me to stand strong in the face of opposition. To choose Your way over the world’s way.
I ask You to reveal areas I’m going my own way, not following my husband’s leading. Show me how to turn things around, to allow him to lead, to allow him to walk out Your call for him.
Thank You for blessing our marriage as we do things Your way.
In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.
