“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
I remember the morning after our biggest fight. I got ready, just like normal, but the day felt anything but.
When I got in my car, I had no idea where I was going. I drove south on I-95 until I ended up at a beach I’d never been. I went there to decide if my marriage should continue. If there was anything worth saving.
Few people visited the beach that day. But everywhere I looked I saw couples. Even the birds paired up two by two.
I decided then and there to stand for my marriage, to believe we were worth fighting for.
My heart goes out to the wife who feels helpless in her marriage. Because maybe you don’t have the strength to fight. I didn’t. Friend, I know what it’s like to not see much good in your marriage. To feel hopeless.
But every one of us faces a battle in our marriage. We have an enemy who wants nothing more than to see our marriages fail.
I can’t promise deciding to stand for your marriage will turn it around. But I can promise Jesus is big enough to fight for you.
A Prayer for the Wife Who Is Standing for Her Marriage:
Lord, thank You for my husband. Even on the hard days, marriage is worth standing for.
You see the fiery darts of discouragement and temptation that come against us from the enemy. “What God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Mark 10:9).
Shield us from feelings of hopelessness. Comfort us in our pain. Give us eyes to see how You fight for us.
Help me to be a vessel of Your love to my husband, to act loving when I don’t feel loving.
I ask You to place a guard over my mouth. Help me to only speak words of life over my marriage.
Give me a vision for what our marriage can be with You at the center. Help me to lean on You, to look to You, and to see that You are enough for me.
In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.
